I was fortunate enough to cover a wish granting for The Make a Wish Greater Bay Area organization. Young Maya 6, is battling leukemia, and he wish was to sing in front of a live audience (and wear a sparkly yellow dress). Beyond adorable.
The event took place at the Swedish American Music Hall in San Francisco. Maya arrived in the afternoon to a welcoming party cheering her arrival. After exiting her car, wearing a "Wishes do come true" shirt, she exclaims with pure excitement, "Let's get this show on the road!" She runs up the stairs to the venue to get sound check moving. Her grandfather greeted the people cheering and fans waiting outside to enter.
Her sound check was great. Dad on guitar, and a full suite of chello, bass, and keys. Soon doors opened and Maya ducked into her dressing room for lunch and to get ready. Fans started to fill in the venue and started making sighs for the show. Before you knew it, the balcony had to open up to accommodate all the fans.
She crushed it. It was an amazing day. I was so happy I went. I love Make a Wish and all they do.
